P = Human Population
Rapid human population growth increases pollution and overexploitation of resources that damage the environment faster than it can be repaired and refilled.
How does this affect biodiversity?
INCREASE POLLUTION
INCREASE HARVESTING OF RESOURCES (living and non-living things)
- disrupt food chains (death and extinction of living things)
- marine animal strangulation
- increase pollution (increase of water, air, soil, and noise pollution)
- global warming (rising air and ocean temperatures, change in seasons, and melting of glaciers)
- health problems (diseases, cancer, and other symptoms)
- heavy metals ingestion (mercury metal in fish)
- deforestation (habitat loss)
- ocean acidification (chemicals in water)
Why does this happen?
- Human Population growth -> more pollution
- Climate Change (global warming, smog effect, acid rain)
- Increase use of resources (land, water, trees, fossil fuels, mining, living things, etc)
- More waste
